Chronic or persistent pain is typically defined as pain that lasts longer than 3 months. It may have started after an injury, illness, or surgery—or it may have developed gradually, without a clear cause. Whatever the origin, we understand that chronic pain is real, complex, and influenced by much more than just damaged tissue.

What is Chronic Pain?

 

Chronic pain doesn’t mean your body is broken or beyond repair. In fact, we now understand that pain is not always a sign of ongoing damage. It’s a protective response from the nervous system—which can become over-sensitive, especially when pain sticks around for months or years.

 

Pain can be affected by many things beyond the physical body, including:

• Past injuries or surgeries

• Stress, anxiety, and low mood

• Poor sleep

• Fatigue or burnout

• Fear of movement or re-injury

• Social and emotional pressures

• Reduced physical activity or deconditioning

• Graded movement and exercise therapy to gradually restore strength, flexibility, and confidence

• Breath work, pacing strategies, and nervous system calming tools

• Goal-setting and habit coaching to support sustainable, meaningful progress

• Collaboration with your GP, psychologist, pain specialist, personal trainer and other healthcare team members - to create a shared cohesive message.
